So this is the picture with the big results.
I am not talking only about the Sony World Photography Awards now. But about the results it had on my private and profesional life.
It was last year this time i took the picture. I was working for a photography company, driving an old second hand car and just bought myself a new Nauticam underwater housing for my old trusty Canon reflex camera.
People told me I was crazy for buying this. After all in a time of 4K Gopro´s why on earth spending so much money on a housing for a not very new Canon reflex?
My answer, that I loved my camera and that I loved being underwater and that most of all I wished to take with me my old trusty camera didn´t really convinced any of them.
Anyhow I got my Nauticam and I was happy as a fish to take it with me each time I could submerge. Ofcourse I started to experiment and to do free shootings just in order to try out the possibilities and to practise. Once again people told me I was crazy to offer free shootings and spend so much time on it.
One shoot I volunteerd to do was to follow a training session of the Trikids Team in SandsBeach Resort. There was also an open water component to the session, so i stuffed my diving gear in the old second hand car and went on my way. Just a street further the car gave up. I had two options. To cancel the free shoot or to take the diving equipement out of the car, grab my camera and start walking. Ofcourse I did the latest. While walking over the street with a divetank on my back and a camera in my hands, people watched me as if I was crazy.
But I loved the shoot and I loved the results! I decided to publish them and put my name on them. Once again some people must have thought i was crazy because I was called in by my boss.
Although his photography company didn´t offer underwater photography services, not even sports for that matter. And although I did the shoot on my free time with my own gear, I got the message I couldn´t publish any pictures underneath my own name as long as I worked for him.
Ofcourse it was obvious what I did (knowing I am crazy after all!) ;)
I reseigned and decided to become self employed and to do what makes me most happy. To be underwater with my camera.
So maybe you can understand now, why it was significant for me. To be there on my birthday in the Summerset House in London and to stand next to my picture. To see my picture printed in a book. It is a proof it doesn´t matter if you´re crazy as long as your happy while being it.
Thanks to all the people that love and support me no matter my crazyness.
